About the Author -
Zaina is a budding senior school student who aims to pursue STEM education at higher levels but exhibits a literary heart which pours out emotions when she is in one of her “zones”.
She started writing Poems when she was very young but this is her first compiled publication which has been released. When not immersed in her studies, she indulges in a streak of activities exhibiting her diverse interests which include, amongst many others, sports and finding meaning in words, reminiscing memories of yesteryears and etching them into immortality. One such effort is reflected here in this compilation.
‘We Called Them Stars’ came to me in fragments, like whispered thoughts carried in the night-time wind. Over many quiet months, I gathered those pieces, stitching them into verses that held the weight of memory and the ache of becoming.
It takes the readers on an evocative journey from living in the past, amidst the shadows, of feeling alone and overwhelmed, to exploring the darkness and eventually moving to what brings us peace.
It begins in the shadow of the past, where familiar places hum with the echoes of what once was, and where memories linger like perfume in the air, refusing to fade.
There’s a solitude that comes not from being alone, but from feeling unseen in the middle of a crowd. These poems explore that very ache, that soft silence between conversations, the quiet longing to be understood.
And of course, the deeper you go, the darker the night becomes, and the city comes alive. Bright lights blur into streetlamp gold, strangers pass, each with their own stories that we can only ever guess at, and the dark becomes a mirror reflecting everything we carry and everything we let go.
But slowly, like dawn after a long night, there is light. A steady return to peace. To breathing softer. To choosing joy.
To everyone who finds themselves in these pages, I leave you with this: where there is life, there is hope.
And with hope, there is joy. There is love. There is fulfillment.
